Background
Danville was once home to a thriving textile industry centered around the Riverside and Dan River Cotton Mills. The mill operated as an independent village for its workers, known as Schoolfield Village, until it was annexed in 1951. The first Schoolfield Elementary was built around 1913 for children of mill employees. After the annexation, Danville Public Schools acquired the school, which operated in the original building for 40 years before relocating to its current site at 1400 West Main Street in 1991.
Mission
Our mission at Schoolfield Elementary is to create a safe and engaging learning environment where all students feel valued and supported. We ensure learning is visible by:
- Designing lessons with clear learning intentions and success criteria
- Creating classrooms rich in student voice and goal-directed dialogue
- Providing timely, effective feedback to move learning forward
- Promoting a shared belief that all students can achieve success
Vision
At Schoolfield Elementary, we envision a school where every student belongs, grows, and thrives in a community dedicated to making learning visible. We commit to fostering an environment where students understand what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how to apply it. Through strong relationships, clear expectations, and purposeful feedback, we empower learners to take ownership of their academic and personal growth.
